Heavy Snow in the Cascades was painted while visiting Crater Lake National Park in the Winter of 2014. I used transparent watercolor on Arches 140lb Cold Press paper and added salt, water and gouache spatter for snow. It had just finished snowing and the skies were still dark with clouds. The weight of the fresh snow on the trees was what caught my eye.
