RUSTY BUTTONS was completed during the first snowstorm of 2016 on the Eastern slopes of the Coast Range at my home in Oregon. In keeping with my oxidation theme, this snowman has a set of rusty buttons. I wanted to create something fun. This became a work-in-progress as I watched a variety of native birds outside my window nibbling away on the wild bird seed we had scattered around our property. I added the Spotted Towhee perched on the rock to match the color of the rusty buttons. Painted on Arches 140 lb Cold Press block with Daniel Smith Pearlescent White added for shimmering effects on the snow.
